House Concurrent Resolution 13
Whereas Macon Ernest
Sumner, Jr., known by his family and friends as “Mac,” was born in
Whereas Mac Sumner moved
with his family to
Whereas Mac Sumner’s
family settled in the
Whereas Mac Sumner
entered the United States Air Force and proudly served as a jet engine mechanic
stationed in Okinawa, including service in Japan and surrounding areas; and
Whereas Mac Sumner was
honorably discharged from the United States Air Force and began his 33-year
career with Safeway; and
Whereas Mac and Judy
Sumner raised their five children on a small working farm near Molalla; and
Whereas Mac Sumner
remarried on August 6, 1988, to the former Sandra Riggs and welcomed her two
children into his family; and
Whereas Mac Sumner, who
lived in the Molalla area for 40 years, devoted his later years to public
service; and
Whereas Mac Sumner
served on the Molalla City Council from 1996 to 2004, including two years as
mayor; and
Whereas Mac Sumner was
elected as a Republican to the Oregon House of Representatives from the
Eighteenth District on November 2, 2004, and was reelected on November 7, 2006;
and
Whereas Mac Sumner
served honorably as a member of the House of Representatives from January 10,
2005, to December 8, 2006; and
Whereas during the 2005
Legislative Session, Mac Sumner served with distinction on the Agriculture and
Natural Resources Committee and the Land Use Committee, where he represented
the interests of his constituents very well; and
Whereas during the final
months of his life, Mac Sumner fought bravely and graciously against cancer
with
Whereas Mac Sumner
passed away on May 7, 2007; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the
Legislative Assembly of the State of
That we, the members of
the Seventy-fourth Legislative Assembly, do hereby commend Mac Sumner’s half century
of public service and dedication to making Oregon a better place; and be it
further
Resolved, That a copy of
this resolution be presented to Sandy Sumner and all of Mac Sumner’s children
as an expression of our gratitude for Mac’s service to Oregon and for his
everlasting friendship.
