Olympic Gold Medalist Ashton Eaton

To Address Oregon Senate Thursday

(SALEM) -- Ashton Eaton, the 2012 Olympic gold medalist in the decathlon, will address the Oregon State Senate Thursday, February 21, at 11 a.m., Senate President Peter Courtney announced today.

Eaton, like other gold medal winning decathletes before him, is widely regarded as the “World’s Greatest Athlete.”

Prior to the 2012 Games in London, Eaton, an Oregon native with roots in Portland, La Pine and Bend, won World Championships in the Decathlon in 2009 and 2011 and in the heptathlon at the World Indoor Championships in 2012.

He was a 5-time NCAA champion (three decathlon and two heptathlon) while competing for the University of Oregon. At Mountain View High School in Bend, Eaton won the state championship in the 400 meters and long jump.

The University of Oregon hosted the 2012 Olympic Trials in Eugene and Eaton is expected to thank Oregon lawmakers for their support of the trials and Oregon’s Olympic athletes.
