Come visit us the weekend prior to the great eclipse of 2017! We are the FIRST of 5 capital cities that will be able to see the eclipse in its totality. On Saturday and Sunday we will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and you are welcome to take a self-guided building tour at anytime. Below are the guided tour times -- both of the building and to the observation platform "tower tours." Tower tours are capacity controlled (50 people only) and are weather permitting. If you are under 18 you must have an adult accompanying you to the tower and a waiver must be signed.
Saturday, August 19: Building open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours available. 11: 30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Out-of-this-World Eclipse Concert in State Capitol State Park performed by the Salem Philharmonia Orchestra, sponsored by Oregon State Capitol Foundation.
Sunday, August 20: Building open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. 11:30 a.m. OMSI lecture “The Great American Eclipse” by Jim Todd in Hearing Room C, sponsored by the Oregon State Capitol Foundation.
Monday, August 21: Rose City Astronomer President Margaret Mcrea on front steps with amplification, narrating the eclipse starting at 9 a.m. Please bring lawn chairs or blanket to sit in the park to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event!
