HB 3555

Governor signing HB2892 - POW/MIA Flag Bill  - 2015
On June 18, 2015 Governor Kate Brown performed the ceremonial signing of HB 2892 which designates that the POW/MIA flag will fly daily at the Capitol and on other state buildings that have the facilities - rather than just on six designated days.  There are still over 83,000 missing servicemen and women - may the flag fly until they all come home.

More Money, More Money, More Money

This entire session has an ongoing theme - More Money - and it appears we have reached the point that the majority party doesn't care where they get it from.  They are even willing to go so far as to circumvent the Oregon Constitution to get what they want.

The recent article in the Oregonian  Concoction Straight out of Hell's Kitchen probably says it best. The majority party has been told that if they go this route it will end up in court - but they are determined to rake in every last cent that is out there.  It doesn't matter that it belongs to you - they want it and they are determined to get it.

SB 925

"During Tuesday's committee vote on SB 925, Republicans accused Democrats of making an "end-run" around a constitutional requirement that says revenue measures must receive a three-fifths "super-majority" of lawmakers. Republicans also argue that revenue measures must originate in the House."

Regarding minimum wage increases. Great article from Eastern Oregon.

I truly have to question the management of this session.  We are only two weeks away from the ultimate last day of session and there is still much to be done.  Budgets have to be finished, and there are many bills still in rules with apparently no final decision made as to where they go or what happens to them, a transportation package - hmm - and more.   We are here for almost six months and the majority party cannot seem to coordinate the tasks that need to be accomplished., even though they control the whole process.

By now you have probably heard that the possibility of a transportation package this session has blown up - a miscalculations by Oregon Department of Transportation kind of threw a wrench into the process.  You can watch that testimony here:  Testimony

I am hoping that we finish up this session prior to 4th of July - but July 11th is the official day we have to be done by law - so I guess only time will tell.

I am pleased to have been invited to speak at a GOP rally on the front steps of the Capitol this Saturday, June 27 from 3-5 p.m.  Sheriff Arpaio will be here as the keynote speaker - should be a great exciting time.  Join us if you can -

You can go here:  Live Feed of House Session And watch the video of the Floor Session if you wish.  Floor Sessions begin

about 10:30 or 11:00 every weekday - we are just beginning to have two floor sessions a day - time to finish up the work.

Elections matter!!

Just observing - do you watch the Floor Sessions?

Looking to be Involved?

If you have watched the opening ceremonies for the House of Representatives you probably have noticed that the audio is turned OFF during the Pledge of Allegiance.  Why is this?  Asking the Speaker of the House that question would be an excellent phone call to make 503-986-1200. - or perhaps the Chief Clerk of the House 503-986-1870.

Since the beginning of Session there have been four bills in particular which have been passed that concern me greatly.:

HB2007  - Makes imposition of disciplinary action against employee that inquires about or discloses wage information unlawful employment practice.
HB2177 -  Directs Department of Transportation to provide Secretary of State with electronic records containing legal name, age, residence and citizenship information and electronic signature of each person who may qualify as elector as prescribed by secretary by rule.
SB324 - Relating to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transportation fuels; and declaring an emergency.
SB941 - Requires private person to complete transfer of firearm by appearing with transferee before gun dealer to request criminal background check or shipping or delivering firearm to gun dealer in certain circumstances.

If you follow the money on these four pieces of NEW legislation I believe you will understand my concern.
