REPS. KRIEGER AND ESQUIVEL HONORED AS
LEGISLATORS OF THE YEAR
SALEM— Reps. Wayne Krieger (R-Gold Beach) and Sal Esquivel (R-Medford) last night received the Oregon Outdoor Council 2013 Legislator of the Year awards at the annual Sportsmen Caucus dinner in Salem.
The award is presented on the basis of service to the Sportsmen and Sportswomen of Oregon and their commitment to strengthening Oregon’s hunting, fishing and trapping heritage. Both recipients were honored for their continued dedication to supporting the North American Model of Wildlife Conservation.
“It’s an honor to receive this award from Oregon’s sportsmen and women,” said Rep. Krieger, a former member of the Oregon State Police’s Fish and Wildlife Division. “Outdoor sports are important to Oregon’s heritage, and the Legislature should do what it can to protect and promote our hunting and fishing heritage.”
Oregon Outdoor Council members, including Jerod Broadfoot, Pendleton were in attendance as well as members of the Oregon Sportsmen Caucus consisting of over 35 state legislators. There were also many manufacturers and providers of sporting goods and services at the dinner. The fishing, hunting and trapping companies of Oregon were represented and many had provided items for the annual fund raising auction and dinner.
“Outdoor sports and recreation are important to Oregon’s economy and culture,” said Rep. Esquivel, co-chair of the bipartisan Oregon Sportsmen Caucus. “We will continue to advocate for recreational opportunities, as well as appropriate management tools for our fish and wildlife.”
