Legislature to Hold Committee Hearings, Emergency Board Meeting This Week
 
SALEM – Legislative leaders are preparing to address issues of critical importance to Oregon during three days of committee hearings, scheduled for September 21st - 23rd.  On September 23rd, the bipartisan Emergency Board will meet to identify solutions to Oregon’s budget challenges.
 
House Speaker Dave Hunt and Senate President Peter Courtney established regular meetings of all interim committees in the State Capitol, dubbed “Legislative Days,” to make state government more efficient and effective.  Previously, the times and locations of interim committee hearings were scattershot.
 
From June 2007 and January 2009, there were 181 committee meetings on 112 separate days.  In comparison, the new system of “Legislative Days” allows interim committees to conduct a total of 150 meetings on just 18 separate days.
