Statement by House Democratic Leader Tina Kotek on September Revenue Forecast

This forecast shows consistent growth in the Oregon economy, and is down largely because of the stock market crisis caused by Congress and the debt crisis overseas.

In Oregon, we are seeing the results of investments that Democrats made in Oregon’s economy, starting in 2009 with the Jobs and Transportation Act, our capital construction program and health care for kids. The private sector job growth we are seeing shows that Oregon’s economy is on the mend, but we are not immune to the poor financial decisions made by Congress and Wall Street.

Oregonians should remember these forecasts are only a gauge. We should proceed with caution and continue to support the creation of Oregon jobs.  It should be "steady as we go" from now until the next forecast in November.  In the meantime, the funds we left unspent will cushion us through this forecast. We continue to be fiscally prudent and focused on growing Oregon’s economy.
