OREGON REPUBLICANS STOP VOTE ON TAX INCREASES;

REPUBLICAN PLAN TO END TAX HAVENS PASSED INSTEAD

SALEM, OR – Oregon House Republicans stopped the House Democrats attempt to raise taxes by $275 million, today, and the Oregon House instead adopted a Republican plan to eliminate offshore tax havens and dedicate the savings to mental health programs. The measure was offered by House Republicans as an alternative to the House Democrats tax plan.

“Oregonians want good jobs, safe communities, great schools, and effective state services,” said House Republican Leader Rep. Mike McLane (R – Powell Butte). “What passed the House today moves us toward that end. But there is more to do. It is time to sit down and have a bipartisan discussion of what approach is best for balancing Oregon’s budget and fixing PERS.”

Ending the tax havens is estimated to provide $18 million in the 2013-15 biennium, and increase to $42 million for 2015-17.
