HOUSE DEMOCRATS REJECT BILL PROHIBITING
LEGISLATORS FROM PERS
SALEM, OR - On a party-line vote today, House Democrats rejected an attempt by House Republicans to hold a vote on HB 3490, which would prohibit future members of the legislature from the Public Employees Retirement System. House Republicans attempted to pull the bill directly to the floor after House Democrats refused to hold a hearing on the legislation.
“Oregonians need to know that in the future the fox isn’t guarding the henhouse,” said Rep. Dennis Richardson (R – Central Point). “This simple step would have increased the confidence Oregonians have in the Legislative Assembly by removing an obvious conflict of interest.”
The vote was rejected on a party-line vote with Republicans voting in favor and Democrats voting against the motion.
