HOUSE REPUBLICAN LEADER COMMENTS ON

MAY REVENUE FORECAST

SALEM— House Republican Leader Kevin Cameron (R-Salem) had the following to say regarding the May 2011 economic and revenue forecast:

“Today’s forecast shows that we live in uncertain economic times.  Rising gas and food prices are straining family budgets, and our business are struggling to gain traction in this slow economic recovery.  This is the time for the Legislature to be prudent in balancing the 2011-13 budget.  Though the additional revenue will help fund some programs in the next budget, we must continue to make the tough decisions to put our finances on a more sustainable path.

“Over the final weeks of session, the Legislature must maintain significant reserves to protect essential services from further cuts later this biennium.  Most importantly, the Legislature must refocus on helping our private sector create more jobs for Oregonians.  Republicans will continue to call for reforms that help attract and retain employers in our state.  Failure to support our private sector will mean future budget shortfalls, and even tougher decisions in the years ahead.”
