OREGON DIRECTOR OF VETERANS AFFAIRS TO JOIN VETERAN REP.  HICKS

IN HONORING OREGON’S FALLEN WAR HEROES

SALEM—Rep. Dennis Richardson (R-Central Point), Oregon Department of Veterans Affairs Director Jim Willis, and Iraq veteran Rep. Wally Hicks (R-Grants Pass) will join the Southern Oregon community in honoring Oregon’s fallen war heroes on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30 at 9 a.m.  Bagpipe music will conclude the ceremony.  Everyone is invited to attend.

Beginning at 9:00 with a Flag Ceremony, National Anthem and invocation, Director Willis and Rep. Hicks will speak at a special Memorial Day ceremony at Central Point’s Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial.  This memorial is dedicated to honoring and remembering every Oregon service man and woman killed in the line of duty from statehood to the present.

“This Memorial Day, the citizens of Central Point and the Rogue Valley will honor Oregonians who have sacrificed their lives in the cause of freedom and liberty,” Rep. Richardson said. “Come listen to the speakers, to the National Anthem sung by a men’s double quartet, watch helicopter and bi-plane fly-overs, and enjoy inspiring bagpipe music—all in less than one hour.”

Rep. Richardson, Marty Terrell and other Central Point citizens helped plan, raise funds and construct the Oregon Fallen War Heroes Memorial, located next to the C.P. Cemetery at Don Jones Memorial Park on Vilas-Hamrick Road in Central Point. The memorial was dedicated in 2008.
