Considered the “ sanest legislator in Salem ,” Rep. Jason Conger (R-Bend) has questioned why the Legislature passes “feel good” education bills yet ignores the need for major policy and cost reforms. Conger introduced the School Savings Act of 2011 , a package of reforms that would save school districts hundreds of millions of dollars that could be directed to classrooms.  In this video clip, Rep. Conger explains how the state forces school districts to lay off teachers and cut school days, and how the Legislature has a simple choice in solving the problem.
