Rep. Mark Johnson (R-Hood River) today urged the Legislature to pass cost-saving reforms that will help Oregon’s school districts retain teachers, support kids and avoid harmful budget cuts.

Rep. Johnson, who also serves as a school board member, pointed to two bills that would help school districts direct more dollars to classrooms.  HB 3488 would allow school districts to find efficiencies by expanding their contracting options.  HB 3539 would allow school districts to negotiate contracts based on economic conditions.

Without cost-saving reforms such as these, Rep. Johnson said school districts and their students will continue to be vulnerable to harmful cuts.
