UAV PRIVACY BILL CLEARS OREGON HOUSE
Salem, OR—A bill aimed at protecting Oregonians’ civil liberties while balancing economic and agricultural interests passed the Oregon House of Representatives on a 52-7 vote earlier today. Sponsored by Rep. John Huffman (R-The Dalles), House Bill 2710 requires public bodies that use Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), otherwise known as drones, to adopt policies on their use, and requires a procedure for notifying the public on those policies.
Throughout the legislative process, Rep. Huffman has worked with economic development and agricultural interests, along with law enforcement, to properly address privacy concerns without compromising the industrial and commercial uses of UAVs.
“I will continue working on this bill on the Senate side to make it more workable for law enforcement,” Huffman said.
Since 2007, Huffman has represented the citizens of House District 59, which includes Wheeler, Jefferson and parts of Wasco, Deschutes, Clackamas and Marion counties.
