OREGON HOUSE APPROVES BORING AND DULL DAY:
Rep. Bill Kennemer Helps Connect
Boring, Oregon & Dull, Scotland
SALEM, OR – Two of the world’s most colorfully named towns took another step toward cementing their relationship today when the Oregon House of Representatives approved HB 2352 which declares August 9th of each year “Boring and Dull Day.” The bill was sponsored by Rep. Bill Kennemer (R – Clackamas County) who represents the town of Boring.
“While some might be inclined to call this frivolous, the reality is that this attention is attracting tourism and commerce to this Boring section of Oregon,” Kennemer said in his floor speech today. “There is a serious side here. This pairing of Boring and Dull is forging a deeper spirit of community.”
Kennemer further noted the Boring community is embracing the friendship with Dull with plans for a Boring to Dull Tour of Scotland, a raffle for a trip to Dull to raise money for the long-desired Boring Community & Senior Center, plans for a Boring & Dull Community Festival, and support for asking the Boring Brewing Company to create a Boring and Dull Scottish Ale.
“While this is a long way from adding a new NIKE, this excitement and a few new jobs are a lot of hullabaloo for Boring,” Kennemer said. “And if just a few of our small Oregon communities could find ways to have a little fun and add some jobs, we could transform Boring and a lot of other boring places in our state.”
Rep. Bill Kennemer was first elected to House District 39 in 2008. Prior to that, he served for 12 years as a Clackamas County Commissioner and 10 years as an Oregon State Senator. His district includes the greater Beavercreek area, Canby, Mulino, Charbonneau and Boring.
