House Speaker Responds to Governor’s Budget Proposal

Statement from Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek:

“Coming into this session, we made it clear that education is our number one priority.

The Ways and Means Co-Chairs’ budget stabilizes public school funding. With the Governor’s proposal, we have an opportunity to do even more for education and Oregon’s future. The Governor’s proposal offers an achievable path forward toward stronger school budgets and more affordable higher education.

The Governor has asked us to pass $200 million in new revenue for education and further stabilize the PERS system with possible adjustments to the money match formula for inactive PERS members.  I look forward to working with the Governor, the Senate, and my Republican colleagues in the House on this framework.

I’ve worked hard throughout the legislative session to find bipartisan solutions to funding the services Oregonians count on.  I hope my colleagues will join with us to move forward.

Working together, we can deliver a win for Oregon.”
