As Gift to Kotek, lawmakers give to Roosevelt scholarship fund
SALEM- The Oregon House of Representatives, on behalf of Oregon House Speaker Tina Kotek (D-Portland), contributed $1,200 to the Theodore Roosevelt Women’s Scholarship Association in the final day of the 77th Legislative Session yesterday.
In the traditional end-of-session recognition of the House of Representatives’ leader, legislators personally donated to the effort to support scholarships for successful Lady Rough Riders at Roosevelt High School in the St. Johns community of North Portland.
“I’m very touched by the generosity of my colleagues, and I’m thrilled to see such a wonderful contribution being made to help high-achieving women graduating from Roosevelt,” said Kotek. “My dedication this session to passing the strongest K-12 budget possible came from my desire to strengthen our local schools. This gift is like icing on the cake.”
The Theodore Roosevelt Women’s Scholarship Association is a nonprofit scholarship fund for female graduates of Roosevelt High School in Portland.
After expressing her gratitude to her colleagues for the gift, Kotek had two parting words for them. “Go Roughriders!” said Kotek.
