Gary Leif was raised in Douglas County, where he continues to reside with his wife, Carol, and their dog, Gizzy. He spent 40 years as a small business owner, but because of his love for his Southern Oregon community, he felt pulled to begin his career in public service. That was 35 years ago. Since then, he's held various roles within the community, most recently as a Douglas County Commissioner.
His diverse experience in service and business gave Gary a unique understanding of the opportunities and hardships that face rural Oregon, along with an eagerness to fight for the success of the hardworking people who live there.
Gary is passionate about bringing people together to protect history and create jobs in order to build a bright future for the next generation. He is known as a bridge-builder who can unify diverse groups to reach common goals. Gary believes in the importance of transparency, community involvement, and accessibility, and is looking forward to bringing those values to the residents of House District 2 from the Oregon Legislature.
He currently serves on two committees: House Interim Committee on Business and Labor, and House Interim Committee on Higher Education and Workforce Development.
