BILL ASSISTING LA PINE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CLEARS HOUSE
Legislation Co-Sponsored by Reps. McLane & Whisnant
SALEM, OR – Legislation to help the City of La Pine and Deschutes County with economic development cleared the Oregon House of Representatives today on a unanimous vote. HB 3130 would allow the county to use money from the sale of county-owned industrial land to make safety improvements to Hwy. 97 in La Pine. Currently, money from such sales cannot be used for offsite improvements. However, without the improvements, new business development in the La Pine will not be approved.
“This is an important step for creating more jobs and business opportunities in La Pine,” said Rep. Mike McLane (R – Powell Butte). “It’s an excellent example of city, county and state government working together to improve our local economy.”
“The City of La Pine and Deschutes County have been working hard to bring more businesses and jobs to the area,” said Rep. Gene Whisnant (R – Sunriver) who represented La Pine until redistricting in 2011. “HB 3130 is a big step toward achieving that goal.”
At the hearing for the bill on March 20, Deschutes County Commissioner Tammy Baney testified, "This legislative fix is critical to the future development of the La Pine Industrial Park and surrounding privately held industrial properties."
Rep. McLane co-sponsored the legislation with State Representative Gene Whisnant (R – Sunriver). The bill now moves to the Oregon Senate.
Rep. Mike McLane is in his second term representing Prinville, La Pine, and portions of Deschutes, Crook, Jackson, Klamath and Lake counties. He also serves as the House Republican Leader.
