Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Thank you for visiting my legislative webpage. I am honored to represent the people of House District 29 in West Hillsboro, Cornelius, and Forest Grove in the 82nd Legislative Assembly. As a fifth generation Oregonian, I love this state! I will assist our families and communities in keeping Oregon a great place to raise a family, work, go to school, and celebrate.

I am thrilled to serve as Co-Chair of the Joint Transportation Committee, Co-Chair of the I-5 Interstate Bridge Committee, Co-Chair of the Joint Ways and Means Subcommittee on Education, and as a member of both the House Agriculture, Land Use, Natural Resources, and Water Committee, and the Joint Ways and Means Committee. You can learn more about these committees in the “committees tab.”

It is important to me that we focus on issues affecting Oregon families, such as transportation safety, school funding, protecting our environment, and supporting our farms and all businesses. As well as increasing government accountability and transparency to ensure best use of taxpayer funds. I know from my conversations with constituents over the past few years that these are the issues that matter most to our community. I am grateful for the opportunity to come down to Salem and work on improving our district and our state.

In the 2024 legislative session, I was proud to chief sponsor four bills that passed through the legislative process:

  • House Bill 4082, relating to summer learning, was a bill that I was proud to work on alongside the Governor’s office. We were able to secure $30 million for the 2024 summer as well as create a study to look into how we can establish Summer Learning as a permanent part of Oregon’s K-12 system.

  • House Bill 4084, my second priority bill, created a pilot program for three schools to collaborate with Anthony's Circle and Self Enhancement Inc, to provide educational support and wrap-around services to foster care students.

  • House Bill 4156 was a bill that I was happy to co-chief sponsor alongside my colleague Representative Mannix. The bill closed exploitable technological loopholes in Oregon’s current stalking laws.

  • Senate Bill 1553 was a bill that I was happy to co-chief sponsor alongside Senator Lieber. This bill related to public safety on transit and added the use of illicit drugs to the crime of Interfering with Public Transportation. This classifies drug use on transit as a drug-designated misdemeanor, which may allow individuals to access state-funded treatment.

I am proud of the success of the 2024 legislative session and am looking forward to the work of the Interim!

Listening to you is my number one job! I want to make sure Forest Grove, Cornelius, and Hillsboro have a strong voice in Salem on issues that affect our community. I hope you’ll to continue to share your questions and concerns with me by email at rep.susanmclain@oregonlegislature.gov, or by calling my office at (503) 986-1429
