The Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO) compiled the District Fast Facts infographics to provide a broad, informative overview of legislative districts. These graphics and the corresponding data should not be used for any other purpose without independent review and analysis of the data.
The District Fast Facts infographics primarily use data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (ACS) and Esri. The ACS datasets are comprised of five-year estimates based on data collected over a 60-month period. The data is representative of the timeframe during which it was collected.
There is a degree of uncertainty associated with the ACS data because it is based on data from a subset of (rather than all) Oregonians. To help District Fast Facts users understand this uncertainty, the ACS data is often presented with a margin of error (MOE). Considering the estimate along with the MOE gives a more accurate sense of the range of values within which the “real-world value” is likely to fall.
Legislative district information is presented alongside data for the State of Oregon. The District Fast Facts do not display whether the differences in the legislative district estimates and the Oregon estimates are statistically significant. Statistical significance is whether the difference between estimates likely represents a true difference. Further analysis would be required to determine if any differences are statistically significant.
