​Kien Tru​ong (He/Him) - Chief of Staff

Born and raised in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, Kien immigrated to the United States in 2014 at the age of 17 to join his grandparents and much of his extended family. He has resided in Southeast Portland since August 2014 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in November 202​1. Kien's portfolio within the Office of Senator Kayse Jama includes housing, immigration and labor policy.

Outside of his day job, Kien serves on the Portland Community College's Board of Directors and chairs the Young Democrats Caucus within the Democratic Party of Oregon. At the center of his work is strengthening our democracy by engaging young leaders civically and improving acess to participation for immigrants and refugees.

Previously, Kien served as Multnomah County's Community Involvement Committee Co-Chair, Asian and Pacific Islanders Community Coalition of Oregon's Executive Director, Portland Public Schools' GEAR UP College Advocate Mentor, Portland Police Bureau's AAPI Advisory Council Member, and Lutheran Community Services NW's School Assistant for Refugee Newcomers.​
