Kien Truong (He/Him) - Chief of Staff
Born and raised in Khanh Hoa Province, Vietnam, Kien immigrated to the United States in 2014 at the age of 17 to join his grandparents and much of his extended family. He has resided in Southeast Portland since August 2014 and proudly became a U.S. citizen in November 2021.
Kien has joined the Office of State Senator Kayse Jama since January 2021 as a Legislative Assistant and then as a Chief of Staff since May 2021. His policy portfolio includes housing, labor and business, immigration, and higher education.
Outside of his day job, Kien serves on the Portland Community College Board of Directors and Oregon Community College Association Board of Directors, and chairs the Young Democrats Caucus within the Democratic Party of Oregon.
Previously, Kien served as Multnomah County Community Involvement Committee Co-Chair, Asian and Pacific Islanders Community Coalition of Oregon Executive Director, Portland Public Schools GEAR UP College Advocate Mentor, Portland Police Bureau AAPI Advisory Council Member, and Lutheran Community Services NW School Assistant for Refugee Newcomers.
