Legislative Committees

Edit
LPRO coordinates and facilitates the work of legislative committees—groups of lawmakers appointed by legislative leadership to consider assigned policy issues and proposed legislation.

Committees are generally organized by policy topics like transportation, education, labor, natural resources, or economic development. Committees may be organized in the Senate, the House of Representatives, or organized jointly with members from both the House and the Senate.

Committee members, chairpersons (chairs), and vice-chairs are appointed by the President of the Senate for Senate committees and the Speaker of the House for House committees, and by both presiding officers for Joint committees.
