Secretary of the Senate Home Page

The Secretary of the Senate is an officer of the Senate and serves as the Senate's chief legislative officer and parliamentarian. The Secretary is elected by the 30 members of the Senate to a two-year term.

The Secretary of the Senate's Office is responsible for coordinating and documenting the actions of the Senate. In accordance with Senate Rules, the Secretary of the Senate's Office prepares the daily agenda, distributes information about measures throughout session, and keeps the Senate Journal. In addition, the Secretary of the Senate's Office assists the Senate with the confirmation of executive appointments.

The 83rd Oregon Legislative Assembly organized on January 13, 2025.

The 2025 Regular Session of the Oregon Senate convened on January 21, 2025 and adjourned sine die at 11:15 PM on June 27, 2025.

The 2025 Special Session convened on August 29, 2025, and adjourned sine die at 12:10 PM on October 1, 2025.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 34, establishing rule of proceeding for the 2026 Regular Session, was adopted by the legislature on June 27, 2025.

Featured Senate Chamber Photo

This photo depicts the main entrance to the Senate Chamber.

The double doors outside the Senate are closed 15 minutes prior to convening and opened 15 minutes after adjournment.

The doors remain closed while the Senate is in session. An exception is upon Sine Die adjournment, when the Senate and House typically open their chamber doors so the President and Speaker can drop the final gavel simultaneously.

Capitol Office Returns

The Secretary of the Senate's office has returned to its historic suite of offices behind the Chamber in Rooms 230 - 237.

Construction continues in and around the historic Senate Chamber and the original 1938 portion of the Oregon State Capitol.

As part of ongoing efforts to make seismic and accessibility improvements at the Oregon State Capitol, portions of the building will be closed.
