Biography
Representative
Holvey was originally appointed to the House of Representatives by the Lane
County Board of Commissioners in January 2004 and was elected to office in
November 2004. With nearly fifteen years of public service to his district and
the state, Representative Holvey is proud of his record of supporting issues
important to our community and all Oregonians.
Before his career in public service, Representative Holvey began
as a carpentry apprentice before becoming a journeyman in the United
Brotherhood of Carpenters. He has worked for various contractors in Oregon,
Washington, California and Alaska as a carpenter, foreman and project
superintendent. He also has previous experience in real estate sales and
appraisal, as well as construction contracting. Representative Holvey is a
retired representative for the Pacific Northwest Carpenters – part of the
United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
Representative Holvey attended Lane Community College, Central
Washington University, and the University of Oregon. He also received a
certificate from the University of Oregon Labor Education and Research Center
and has had professional training in labor-management relations.
During his time
serving in the legislature, Representative Holvey has championed a wide range
of legislation important to Oregonians, such as expanding solar technology,
assisting domestic violence victims with unemployment insurance needs, helping
small businesses with licensing, implementing the Forest Legacy program in Oregon,
ensuring safety in children's products, enacting homeowner mortgage
protections, and ending field burning in the Willamette Valley.
In addition to his role as Speaker Pro Tempore, Representative
Holvey currently serves as Chair of the House Committee on Rules.
Additionally, he also sits on House Committee on Business and Labor, as well as
on the Joint Committee on Ways & Means, W&M Natural Resources
Subcommittee and the W&M Capital Construction Subcommittee. He looks
forward to continuing his service to House District 8 during the 2019
Legislative Session.
Representative Holvey has been recognized by the Oregon State
Apprenticeship and Training Council for Meritorious Service, received a
Certificate of Recognition from the Chair of the Lane County Board of
Commissioners, received an award from the Eugene Human Rights Commission in
recognition for his community contributions, and was recognized by the Oregon
Recreation and Parks Association for his legislative advocacy. He has also been
recognized by the Oregon Nurses Association, the Oregon League of Conservation
Voters and the Oregon Humane Society.
Representative Holvey lives in South Eugene with his wife Terrie
and their two dogs, Sonny and Boo. His son Justin and his wife Carla have a
lively daughter named Natalie and an adorable son named Kyle!
