I am proud to represent my constituents in House District 48, which includes Damascus and East Portland. Our new Moniker is "From Kelly Butte to Powell Butte, Barton to Carver."
House District 48 Mission Statement
House District 48 is dedicated to championing Oregon's diversity, fostering effective communication and collaboration representing rural, suburban, & urban communities from Kelly Butte to Powell Butte, Barton to Carver. We stand for working families and prioritize the well-being of children, educators, and immigrant/refugee populations and support initiatives that contribute to thriving and vibrant neighborhoods.
As your Representative, I will work for all families to have the opportunity to thrive. I will fight to fund our schools, increase access to childcare, and invest in robust workforce programs. I will support equitable housing solutions that match our district's unique make-up of urban and rural communities. North Clackamas and East Portland are among the fastest growing areas of Oregon. I will champion policies that reduce disparities while fostering healthy and vibrant neighborhoods. My top priority is you. I will listen to your concerns and be your voice at the Capitol.
As the daughter of Vietnamese refugees and an educator, I understand the disparities many families are facing. I also know the power of strong communities working together to solve our toughest problems. I will be reviewing all policies through an equity lens similar to the Department of Education:
Education equity is the equitable implementation of policy, practices, procedures, and legislation that translates into resource allocation, education rigor, and opportunities for historically and currently marginalized youth, students, and families including civil rights protected classes. This means the restructuring and dismantling of systems and institutions that create the dichotomy of beneficiaries and the oppressed and marginalized.
I have the opportunity to serve on three committees; House Education Committee for K-12, House Early Childhood and Human Services, and the JointWays and Means Subcommittee on Education. I will be Vice Chair on the House Early Childhood and Human Services committee, and look forward to collaborating with the Chair.
I hope to learn about your concerns, hopes, and frustrations. I know that sometimes it may seem like our government is not really listening to the concerns of average Oregonians. My commitment to you as your state representative is to be as available and responsive as possible, and to continue connecting with the community to understand your needs.
I invite you to take an active role in the legislative process and engage with my office in the following ways:
